Jorik

* * *

While I wished to carry Gabriela all the way to our—fuck yes, our—quarters, I wrapped my arm about her shoulders and held her closely to me instead, allowing her to walk.

I was confident the ReGen pod had healed her body, but seeing the wounds, what she’d gone through at the hands of the barbaric doctors on Earth, to have our baby… I wanted to go there and rip off more heads.

She’d been in pain. She’d been cut open and left to heal with nominal pain suppressants. She’d been alone. The knowledge that she’d carried and delivered Jori all by herself made my beast lower his head in shame, but it also made him fiercer than ever.

Gabriela was here. She was mine. She wasn’t going fucking anywhere, and she would never suffer again.

When we came upon my entry, there stood Governor Rone and his mate, Rachel, waiting for us. “The doctor told me you two were headed back to your quarters,” he said, explaining how he knew when to show up.

Seeing us, Rachel came over to us with an excitement bordering on giddy.

“Another Earth woman. And a baby!”

. But her smile was infectious, and her mate shared her happiness.

As did I. My beast preened at showing off the baby Gabriela and I had made.

“I’m Rachel and I was matched to this guy.” She tilted her head toward the governor who wore his Prillon mating collar with pride. They were a matched pair with copper collars around their necks. “I’m also matched to Ryston, but he’s working.”

“I’m Governor Rone, but you can call me Maxim. I have to admit, I am very pleased you are here.”

Gabriela glanced between the two of them. “Nice to meet you. I’m sorry I’m such a slob.”

“Woman, you have a week-old newborn. I’m surprised you can speak coherently. Besides, you should have seen Jorik before you showed up,” Rachel said. “God, he was a hot mess. Tearing through everyone but Tyran in the fighting pits.”

My beast growled because she was right. I’d been insane. I’d have killed someone before much longer. “Tyran has godlike strength, Lady Rone. No one on this planet can best him in hand to hand combat.”

“Don’t I know it. You fighting males are hot.” She leaned into the governor’s shoulder, her eyes glazing with desire. I knew that look on a human female. Her mate’s sharp Prillon features came to distinct focus as his mate’s need hit him full force.

Lucky male. As was I. Time to get rid of our well-meaning visitors.

“I am not overheated.” I looked at Gabriela, who was smiling, enjoying the teasing at my expense. I was happy to suffer, to put that look on her face. “And I was not a mess. I simply needed my mate.”

“Down, boy,” Rachel teased. “And I think Gabriela would disagree, about your level of hotness.” She did something funny with her eyebrows, lifting them up and down.

Gabriela laughed. “Are there more women from Earth here?”

Rachel smiled. “Yep. You make eight females. One’s a toddler.
